At Red River Obedience Training Club we train YOU to train your dog! Our motto is "Train your troubles away". Our instructors will teach you basic obedience as well as try to define and rectify troublesome behavior using POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT !
RROTC is a non-profit 501(c)4, AKC sanctioned club dedicated to encourage obedience training not only of purebred, but of all dogs. The club was founded in 1959, and is the only AKC recognized Obedience club in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Red River Obedience Training Club held it’s first AKC licensed Obedience Trial in 1962. There are now two yearly Trials held back to back each year in July. RROTC’s Trials are among the south’s finest and include entries from Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. The 2009 Trials were held July 4 and 5 at the Bossier Civic Center. Exhibitors tell us that they highly recommend our trials to others because of our hospitality, stewarding and overall genuine love of the sport. The 2010 Trials will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4 at the Bossier Civic Center.
The club boasts an active community service-minded membership, which has grown steadily from the original ten members. Membership now exceeds sixty, with members active in Conformation, Agility, Hunting, Herding, Tracking and Therapy Dogs.
Obedience training doesn't solve all behavioral problems but it is the foundation on which to work. Training your dog to be a good neighbor, a good family member and a best friend is the best thing besides love that you can provide for your dog. It opens up a line of communication between you and your canine friend that will enrich, and last throughout, the relationship . It will establish the social hierarchy between you and your pet as well as make him more confident.
Our classes provide the training necessary to earn obedience titles such as Companion Dog (CD), Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), Utility Dog (UD) and Utility Dog Excellent (UDX). In addition to traditional obedience training we sometimes offer "specialty" classes as interest arises. Specialty classes include those such as "Attention Games", “Tricks Workshop” and "Polishing" classes (to prepare for competition). We also have Rally classes on our schedule. Classes will provide the training necessary to obtain the AKC Rally titles of Rally Novice, Rally Advanced and Rally Excellent.
