Hello, my name is Bekki Delphen - and I would like to welcome you to my website. I am a decorative faux artist in the Baton Rouge area and I have received a "Certificate of Completion" from Three of the most prominent Faux Finishing Schools in the U.S. I have been taught some of the newest techniques used in the decorating field today. Some of these include glazing, marblizing, lusterstone, venetian gemstone, colorwashing, venetian plaster, crackle, faux brick, elephant hide, malachite, tortoiseshell, the list goes on. One of the Finishing Schools was specialized training in the newest techniques done on cabinets & furniture. Some of these techniques include gold leafing, ostrich, alligator, faux mahogany, crackle pull-off, foils, elephant skin & distressing.
Faux Finishing happens when someone looks at their walls and they say "Hey, this just needs something." Most people don't know where to go from there - so they start looking at magazines - they probably happen across a faux design - then they search out a Faux Finisher. The faux finisher should have a Certificate of Completion from a faux finish school, proving that he or she has been educated in the profession.
ADVANTAGES OF FAUX FINISH
Faux Finish can be applied to almost any surface - as long as that surface is properly sealed. Faux can hide the imperfections of a surface - for example - sheetrock damaged by wallpaper removal can be covered with a texture effect and then glazed. Faux finish is durable because it is sealed and topcoated to resist stain, hairspray, food etc. If it ever requires touch up - this also is easily done and if you get tired of it, you simply paint over it. No need to hire a wallpaper removal company to remove the paper - then a sheetrock guy to refloat your sheetrock - no, none of that - just paint over it. From concept to completion - Faux Finishing is definitely a unique and elegant finish.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION
From your first phone call - your immediate needs are assessed. If you know what finish you want - then we proceed from there. If not - thats okay, I am here to help you. Most people come and take a tour of my studio - which is located in my home - where I have a variety of different Faux Finishes applied in different rooms. No more of those teeny-tiney samples where you have to guess what it will turn out to look like.
After your visit, we will try to zero in on what you like, don't like, and in what direction you would like to go. You will also be provided with a price list - which details the cost of my different finishes. Estimating a faux finish job is difficult without seeing the room. The Faux Finisher usually needs to see the project in order to give an accurate price quote.
Next step, I will then go to your home and try to help you decide on colors, and which finish will best be suited to you and your home. I will measure your square footage and give you an estimate as to the amount of your project. The charge for an in-home consultation is $50.00 per hour. Upon your acceptance of the job - your consultation fee is applied to the cost of the project. (This consult generally takes apx 1 hr.) If everything goes as expected up to this point - I will begin preparing your sample boards of the finish that will go on your wall.
I will never put anything on your walls until you see the finish on a poster sized board. For cabinet work - I will do a sample on a cabinet door (which I provide) before it is applied to your cabinets. This will enable you to see your finish on a large scale. Colors can be adjusted until your color is just right. (The fee for the cabinet sample is $50.00 and is deducted from the cost of your project.) After that we will get a start date for your job on the calendar - and its just a matter of time and your walls will go from drab to Fab.
Making you feel comfortable with this process is first and foremost - its all about getting you what you want.
