Rebuilding Our Church Katrina's Wake Katrina/Ultreya How to VolunteerUUAA Katrina Service Relief
GNOUU is a local cluster of three UU churches who are revitalizing their faith while rebuilding their city.
Rebuilding will take years- won't you support the UUs in New Orleans?
We’re glad that you have found our webpage, our “home” on the Internet. Take some time to explore, and Contact Us with any questions that you might have. We welcome your concerns, your ideas, your suggestions and comments.
We look forward to meeting you in person, worshiping with you, sharing meals with you, learning and growing with you, working with you for the betterment of New Orleans and the world, and having fun with you. All of these activities are part of who we are. If they appeal to you, then you might just have found your new spiritual home.
Please join us at the church to celebrate our faith community and the 2011 Annual Budget Drive. Family members of all ages are welcome and childcare will be provided. Drinks and appetizers will be served starting at 6:30, with dinner at 7 and further entertainment from 7:45 to 9 pm. Music by Evie and the Setting Sons.
Just a reminder to you all please RSVP to me if you plan to come to the Fellowship Dinner this Saturday night. Below is the menu as I currently imagine it. It could change based on the availability of really awesome ingredients I have not yet thought of; but, the final will be close to this. Email me your RSVP at Jyaphia@aol.com with the number of folks in your party. It also helps if you tell me how many veggies and meat eaters. The meat will be poultry, not pork or beef.

Gerry Goar will select a personal favorite from the sermons of Unitarian Universalist minister available online, and preach it for the First Church congregation. A great way to learn from the wisdom of other UUs around the country, and Gerry's services are always well-received. As part of our shared ministry with them, Rev. Melanie will be preaching today at the North Shore congregation.

FROM OUR MINISTER: MELANIE'S MISCELLANY - "We're Not Helpless!"
Recovering as we are from the continuing depredations of the federal flood and the BP oil gusher in our personal lives and in the life of our church, and with the economic recession continuing to play havoc with incomes, retirement expectations, and donation income, we could be excused if we let ourselves succumb to anxiety, or even despair. It sure is a lot to cope with, but what inspires me and energizes me and impresses me is how the people of First Church and the people of New Orleans respond to these many challenges with determination, with love, with generosity, and with humor. This is a constant source of inspiration and gratitude to me.
A sermon by Rev. Jim Vanderweele of Community Church UU presented at FUUNO on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 10:30 am (Revival of a Tradition: Southeast La. UU Ministers Pulpit Swap)
"Life on the Track"
The Rev. Jim Vanderweele of Community Church UUYears ago, our church participated in an annual tradition of swapping pulpits with the ministers of Baton Rouge and Community Church. All 3 congregations benefited from being able to learn from each other's ministers.
Rev. Jim's sermon is available for printing as a .pdf.
It's been a hard lesson for all of us since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita five years ago, and Hurricane Gustav in 2008, the recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.
